ORNELLAIA
Ornellaia is Tenuta dell’Ornellaia’s flagship wine
and was first produced in 1985. The vineyard is
based in the coastal region of Bolgheri in the
province of Livorno, Tuscany, Italy. The wine is
produced in limited quantities and is hand-crafted
and vinified, the 2006 blend consisting of 56%
Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc
and 5% Petit Verdot. The wines are aged
extensively in oak, often for 18 months, and are
normally aged further in the bottle for a further
12 months, prior to release.
Ornellaia is a lush,
deep and exuberant wine: powerful and
concentrated, its intensity is immediate and
persistent. Ornellaia has been lauded by critics
ever since its release, the 2006 Massetto having
received 99 points from Robert Parker, who has
described the wine as "monumental".
