PENFOLD'S
GRANGE
Having
launched in 1951, Grange is still Australia's most
prestigious and iconic red wine, despite stiff
competition from other Australian wineries. Grange
has been made every year since and clearly shows
the synergy between the Shiraz grape and the soils
and climates of South Australia.
Grange shuns the single vineyard philosophy,
preferring to express its message via
multi-vineyard, multi-district blending. Indeed,
fruit is used from three distinctive regions: the
Barossa Valley, McClaren Vale and Magill.
This
legendary wine is a blend of Shiraz (normally 95%)
and Cabernet Sauvignon and is aged in new American
oak barrels, creating a unique style that is
recognised for its complexity, ageing potential
and consistency.
The 1976 Grange received a perfect 100 score
from Robert Parker and has been described as a
wine that has "extraordinary concentration but
perfect harmony among all of its elements."
Top Grange vintages produced:
1962, 1976, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2004
