DOMAINE DE LA ROMANEE CONTI

Domaine
de la Romanee Conti is the most famous wine estate
in all of Burgundy. The vineyards are centred
around the village of Vosne-Romanee, which are
some of the most highly revered in the whole of
the Côte de Nuits. The Domaine makes a selection
of exquisite pinot noir based wines with are rich,
silky, balanced and complex alongside a
spectacular chardonnay based Montrachet.
The domaine, commonly known as DRC, is co-owned by
the de Villaine and Leroy families. In accordance
with the complex land-ownership structures
prevalent in Burgundy, the de Villaine land is
shared amongst ten different family members,
whilst the Leroy sisters each own twenty-five
percent of the domaine.
The domaine has twenty-five hectares of vineyards
and all are Grand Crus. As well as the 1.8 hectare
monopole La Romanée Conti, the Domaine purchased
its other monopoly, La Tâche, in 1933, along with
significant holdings in the grand crus of
Richebourg, Romanée St Vivant, Grands-Echezeaux,
Echezeaux and Le Montrachet over the past 200
years.
Bernard Noblet makes the wines in the footsteps of
his father André Noblet. Whole bunches of late
harvested grapes are used, with a long vatting
time that helps to prevent heat spoilage. Yields
are miniscule and the winemaking is highly
traditional and perfectionist. DRC wines are some
of the most highly sought after wines in the world
and have an almost mythical reputation.
