Throughout the
middle ages, up until 1798, the seigneurs of
Lafite were the high administrators
of justice in the country. It was through officers of their choice that they
exercised this right.
Lafite is fermented in 27 vats of Bosnian oak and spends between 24-30 months in
French oak barriques. The whole process from picking the grapes to bottling is
strictly supervised by Eric de Rothschild, the present administrator on behalf
of the family.

Mouton Rothschild is one of the most fascinating properties in the Medoc. More
than any other Chateau, it has been the subject of countless articles in
newspapers and magazines.
This interest is due, in some measure, to the fact that Chateau
Mouton
Rothschild is the only chateau ever to achieve promotion under the
classification of the Medoc.
In 1855
Mouton was no more than a farmhouse and it was not until 1880 that James
Rothschild built the elegant dwelling now known as Petit-Mouton, adjoining the
chais. The property continued in the family of Rothschild and Baron Philippe
took over the running of the property in 1922. He was determined to raise
Mouton
to a premier grand cru. Wine produced include

Chateau Petrus is
the most celebrated wine of Pomerol, and in fact the world. It has been said
that everything about Chateau
Petrus is
small-scale, except for its wine and its reputation.
Chateau
Petrus's
standing first became clear when
Petrus won a
gold medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1878, the
first wine from Pomerol to gain this distinction,
and in an era when such awards really carried
weight. But the modern reputation of Chateau
Petrus, also seen
as
Pétrus, is due to Madame
Loubat who steadily built up the quality of Chateau Petrsu with meticulous husbandry
and impeccable vinification.
The estate of Château
Cheval Blanc
is situated in the furthest corner of St Emilion, bordering on to Pomerol, and
offers a very curious mixture of soil and sub-soil areas which change nature at
each step.
The result of this diversity of soils and the extremely well chosen selection of grape varieties, combined with the assiduous care taken over the wine growing and wine making, gives the wine of Château
Cheval Blanc a great deal of mellowness, body and delicacy, plus a delicious bouquet, but most particularly, a distinctive style.

Château d'Yquem is the very top Sauternes - and has been for generations. In no
other district is there a château with such a pre-eminent position. Many wine
lovers make their way up the long drive simply to gaze at the château, which is
well worth the effort, since the grandness of d'Yquem also extends to its place
of birth.
The
great secret of Chateau d'Yquem is that the grapes are picked one by one at exactly the
right moment, namely when their sugar content is such that they could in theory
produce wine of an alcohol content of 19 degrees to 20 degrees. Wines:
