Your event will be tailored to your specific requests, but could include:
- An event structured around a theme: region, château, vintage or style
- Your choice
of formal or informal, from a black-tie event with in-depth analysis and a
formal dinner to a more casual ambience
- Comparing existing favourites, or
discovering new and exciting producers and regions
- How to match food and wine
- A variety of challenges, like testing your skills in blind tasting
- The finest
equipment, including quality Riedel glasses and decanters
- A great balance of learning and fun.
Choosing a theme
We can help you come up with your own theme for the event, but here are some ideas to get you started:
- Vertical
tastings from an individual domaine: It can be fascinating to compare vintages
of the same wine, particularly with the effects of climatic variations and their
direct influence on flavour. Tasters will leave feeling confident about
recognising good and bad years.
- Grand Vin v Second Wine: A comparison between the Grand Vin of a
well-known vineyard and its sibling (usually made from younger vines on the
estate, or inferior parcels of vineyard). Good examples are Château Latour v Les
Forts de Latour, or Lafite Rothschild vs Carruades de Lafite. Is the top wine
worth a premium price?
- Test the 1855 Classification: Blind tasting of examples from 1st Growth
down to 5th Growth, plus Cru Bourgeois or St Emilion. Create your own ranking
based on taste, and see if your assessment matches the famous classification.
-
Young Pretenders v Big Names: Blind tasting of lesser-known wines, as the new breed of quality-driven pioneering wine-makers go up against the established classics.
-
Rhône—the North/South divide: Discover the differences between wines
from the same geographic region. This theme focuses upon the direct effects of
terroir and microclimate on wine styles. A good example is Côte Rotie or
Hermitage in comparison to Chateauneuf du Pape—all from the Rhône valley, but
what a contrast!
-
North America—Screaming Eagle or Screaming Blue Murder? Do the Californian
boutique wines deserve their stratospheric prices? Taste six highly rated wines
and formulate your own quality assessment.
